Below is a suggested list of basic ingredients to keep on hand for
preparing meals that control blood sugar and lower insulin resistance.

               Fresh Fruits:
Apples
Oranges Pears Peaches Grapes  Strawberries Raspberries Blueberries (berries can be fresh or frozen)  Cherries Bananas Lemons Limes

Lettuce
• Spinach • Brussel Sprouts •  Broccoli • Zucchini • Squash • Celery • Carrots • Bell Peppers (red and green) • Red Onions • Sweet Potatos (try baked with a little butter and cinnamon instead of a baked potato) • Garlic (fresh or minced)
       Dairy Products:
Skim or 2% Milk
Whole Eggs or Egg Substitute Soft "light" Margarine (non-hydrogenated!) Yogurt (low or non-fat, no sugar added) Low-fat Cheese Sour Cream (light or reduced-fat) Ice Cream (low or non-fat, no sugar added)
             Pantry Items
100% Whole Wheat Pasta (spaghetti and/or rotini)
Basmati and/or Brown Rice Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans   Chicken and Beef Broths (low-fat, low sodium) Canned Tomatoes (diced and/or whole) Tomato Paste (preferable to tomato sauce, which often contains high-fructose corn syrup) Black Beans Red Kidney Beans White Navy Beans Split Peas Lentils • Chick Peas (Garbanzo Beans) Mandarin Orange sections (canned, no sugar added) Applesauce (unsweetened)
         Seasonings/Spices:
Salt
PepperBasil Thyme Oregano Chili Powder Curry Powder (yellow and spicy red) Paprika Cumin Parsley Dill Red Pepper Flakes Cinammon (actually lowers blood sugar!) Vanilla Extract 
Staples:  Whole Wheat Flour Sugar Substitute (Splenda or similar--the kind that can be used like sugar in baking)   Brown Sugar Substitute ( Brown Sugar Splenda) Flax Seed (or Flax Meal) Extra Virgin Olive Oil Canola Oil  • Non-stick Vegetable Oil Spray Wheat Bran Baking Powder Baking Soda  Cornstarch Cocoa Powder (unsweetened)
           Condiments
Low-fat, Low Calorie Salad Dressing
Teriyaki Sauce   Soy Sauce (low sodium) Fat-free Mayonnaise White, Cider and Balsamic Vinegars  Worcestershire Sauce Regular and/or Dijon Mustard Fruit Spread (100% fruit, no-sugar) Salsa
